A 15-month boy in Greenacres died from a drowning after he found floating in a retention pond near his home, the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said Tuesday night.

At 2:54 p.m., deputies responded to the 2600 block of Canalside Dr. in reference to a possible drowning. The child was transported to a local hospital and died.

Detectives from the Special Victims Unit responded to investigate further.

About a dozen emergency vehicles were at the scene including an engine from Greenacres Fire Department.
