A New York City man faces multiple charges in connection with a fatal crash Thanksgiving Day on Southern Boulevard at Interstate 95.
Michael Vincent Tomei, 26, was in court Wednesday morning a day after he was booked on charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI with serious bodily injury.
On Nov. 26, 2015, the Florida Highway Patrol said Tomei was driving a 2012 Hyundai Genesis southbound on I-95 and exiting onto Southern Boulevard when he crashed into a 2009 Nissan Sentra driven by 63-year-old Chan Singh of Orlando.
Singh was killed in the crash. His wife, Hansranie Singh, 61, was a passenger and suffered serious injuries including fractured ribs and spine.
FHP said when troopers arrived at the scene, Tomei was still in the driver's seat of his car and they could smell alcohol.
The FHP report said Tomei voluntarily gave a blood sample, and tests showed his blood alcohol content was 0.141. In Florida, 0.08 is considered over the legal limit.
Bond was set at $126,000 during Wednesday's hearing. He is under supervised probation and must surrender his passport.
