PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for the driver who hit and killed a 61-year-old man Tuesday night in suburban West Palm Beach.

Investigators said the crash occurred at 8:46 p.m. at the intersection of Military Trail and Belvedere Road.

PBSO said the victim, Clifford Paul Rother, was walking across the southbound lanes of Military Trail. A car, believed to be a newer white or silver Kia Optima four-door sedan, was also heading south at the time.

Rother was not using the crosswalk, traveled into the path of the vehicle and was hit, said PBSO.

Investigators said the driver fled the scene. The car likely has damage to the left front and side.

Rother was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Anyone with information should contact PBSO investigator Robert Stephan at 561-688-3400.
