WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Donald Trump leads the Republican field by 20 points in South Carolina, according to a new poll.
The Fox News poll released on Wednesday shows Trump with the support of 35% of Republicans in the state, more than double Ben Carson's 15% or Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio's 14%. Jeb Bush wins 5% support, and every other candidate has 2% or fewer.
Among Democrats, Hillary Clinton has a 45-point lead over Bernie Sanders, 65% to 21%. Martin O'Malley, the third candidate in the race, has 3%.
South Carolina is polled less often than the first two primary states, Iowa and New Hampshire, and its voting results are often swayed by how candidates fare in the first two contests. But based on current polling, the state is shaping up to be one of Trump and Clinton's strongest.
Fox News polled 437 likely Republican voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points, and 364 Democratic voters for a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
