People working to stop the international spread of the deadly Ebola virus and aid those suffering with it top Time magazine's "Person of the Year" list for 2014.
"They risked and persisted, sacrificed and saved," the article in the magazine reads.
This is the 87th time the publication has selected a "Person of the Year."
One of the runners-up for person of the year is Russia's president, Vladimir Putin. Time attributes Putin's annexation of Crimea and his attempt to restore Russia as an authority, which hugely spurred his approval ratings.
"Not since 2008, when Putin last defied the West by sending Russian tanks into neighboring Georgia, has he enjoyed such popularity at home," the Time article says.
