A police officer's attempt to corral a stray pit bull in Texas ended up turning into a comedy of errors that involved the dog taking over the vehicle and eating the cop's snacks.

The Kilgore (Texas) Police Department said in a Saturday Facebook post that the officer was dispatched to a report of an aggressive pit bull.

Police said the officer located the dog running around and thought he might be able to quickly capture it. He opened the back door of his patrol car and tried to coax it into the back seat, which is caged.

However, the police said officer also left the driver's door open. The post said, "Cujo decided he wasn't going to jail and instead jumped into the front seat. As the officer tried to get him out of the front driver's seat, Cujo became aggressive. The door was shut to prevent injury to the dog or officer."

Now the the officer's car had been "hijacked," police said the dog decided to make itself at home in the air conditioning and snacking on the officer's beef jerky.

An animal control officer arrived later and safely took "Cujo" into custody.

Police said, "the only injury sustained in this incident was to the officer's pride."
