It's the car part we all use, but rarely think about.
"I don't think people understand the importance of headlights to their safety when driving," said Richard Cabrera, a crash reconstructionist based in Broward County.
In March, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released dim results of its own independent study on headlights.
Of 31 mid-sized cars tested, it found only one model, the Toyota Prius, had headlights the Institute rated as "good." Eleven cars were rated "acceptable" and the remaining car were rated "marginal" or "poor."
"It turns out, headlights aren't performing as well as they could," said David Zuby, Chief research officer for the Institute.
