A new survey revealed the safest places to shop during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Consumer Health and Safety Index survey compared safety measures at 5,700 major grocery stores across the United States.
Whole Foods Market was ranked number one and was credited with being the "health and safety all-star." Ninety-eight percent of employees wore face masks or coverings while inside. Ninety-one percent of employees remained 6 feet apart while interacting customers. Also, 95% of stores made use of Plexiglas barriers at checkout and 87% provided contact-less payment methods, according to the survey.
Costco took home the No. 2 spot, where 83% of employees were seen with face coverings outside while 95% wore them inside. The store also used social distancing markings at 94% of its locations.
Trader Joe's rounded out the top three for its "consistency and attention to the most important health and safety factors to consumers." At 94% of Trader Joe's stores visited, employees were seen actively managing the number of customers entering and exiting.
