WPTV

Reporter

Kate Hussey is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning investigative reporter who joined WPTV in October 2022.

At WPTV, she helped produce the award-winning documentary The Day the Sky Turned, chronicling South Florida’s historic tornado outbreak.

Her investigative weather reporting has uncovered critical emergency infrastructure failures, and her accountability reporting has contributed to legislative changes and criminal arrests. She also leads in-depth investigations focused on insurance, crime, and the justice system.

Before joining the investigative team, Kate reported on Florida’s Treasure Coast, covering rapid growth, traffic congestion, rising costs of living, and environmental concerns.

Prior to WPTV, Kate spent nearly four years in New Bern, North Carolina, as an investigative reporter and anchor. Her reporting exposed safety issues in schools and on roadways, prompted a statewide investigation into a dangerous highway, and helped spark the creation of a new statewide education policy.

Kate began her career at WCTI 12, reporting from FEMA trailers in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Covering storm recovery across eastern North Carolina shaped her commitment to telling impactful, community-driven stories.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Kate discovered her passion for broadcast journalism at an early age. She is driven by holding the powerful accountable and creating meaningful change through storytelling.

A devoted New York Giants fan and self-proclaimed pizza critic, Kate is happy to have traded the Garden State for the Sunshine State. When she’s not chasing a lead, she’s at the beach, out for a run, trying a new restaurant, or spending time with her cat, Ellie.
