WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A West Palm Beach non-profit organization is hosting a co-lab working event this weekend to help small businesses solve their problems and get back on track.
For Anuella Alexandre, planting is her passion.
"I like to say that I am in the business of prevention," said Alexandre, the founder of A Green Community. "Really passionate about introducing nature to families and young children."
Before the COVID-19 pandemic Alexandre was teaching students in the School District of Palm Beach County how to garden and grow their own foods.
"And COVID came along and that was kind of scratched," Alexandre said.
That forced Alexandre to change her business model. That’s when she saw that 1909, a West Palm Beach non-profit organization, was offering a business accelerator and mentorship program.
"We had 20 businesses that went through an entire application process, got into the six-month program where we really help them take their ideas to reality," said Shana Ostrovitz, the executive director of 1909.
For the second year, this weekend the group will host a co-lab event, turning problems into projects. Ostrovitz said the pandemic has created a need for businesses to help one another.
"Every single startup company is going to be paired with four volunteers, all with different skills sets coming out to help them take on something they haven’t been able to do in their businesses," Ostrovitz said.
Planting seeds of opportunity.
"And as I’m in this program and thinking about this, it hit me, maybe a subscription box is the way to go. Maybe what I have to do is bring nature to people without me being there," Alexandre said.
