(NBC) - Nature is putting on quite a show in central Italy this summer.
A multi-colored carpet of flowers has blanketed fields in the Umbria region in the shadow of the Apennine Mountains.
Poppies, daisies and cornflowers have burst into bloom, giving tourists and locals quite a dazzling show.
The flowers emerges at this time of year alongside a village's lentil crop.
The stunning display is especially sweet this year.
Last year, a severe drought left the flowers in sorry shape.
A local farmer says the colorful flowers that come up between the lentil plants are wild weeds that sprouted in the plain over time.
The fields of flowers bloom near a village hit hard by an earthquake two years ago.
