(NBC) Powerful storms hit Sydney, Australia, producing one lightning strike too close for comfort.
Two friends, Nick and Daniel, had just decided not to take their boat out on the water because of a nearby thunderstorm.
One friend told the other not to step outside. Just then, lightning hit very close to where they were standing.
The men told an Australian television station they "felt the static" from the lightning bolt.
The strike was one of thousands that lit up the skies over Sydney last weekend.
More than 50,000 homes and businesses were left without power.
