OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. — Two Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a shooting Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident happened in the 6300 block of Northeast 8th Way.
WPTV's Tyler Hatfield is on the scene, and says the two deputies responded to a home for reports of male in crisis.
Prior to deputies' arrival, the responding sergeant requested the assistance of the Crisis Negotiation Team to deescalate the situation.
Deputies encountered an armed man at the rear of the home and gave several verbal commands to drop his weapon, but the man did not comply. Deputies shot the man.
The sheriff's office says the suspect was pronounced dead.
Sergeant Jack Nash confirmed neither deputy was injured.
The shooting remains under active investigation.
