Coral Springs Fire Department responded to reports of a woman being bitten by an alligator Friday afternoon.
According to authorities, the alligator bit the woman somewhere near the west Everglades on Loxahatchee Road
Officials said they received a 911 call of a woman who had her hand bitten off by a gator.
Broward sheriff deputies say the 49-year-old woman was reaching in the water from a dock to get a can she had dropped when she was bit by a 4 to 5 foot gator.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted to Broward North Hospital in Pompano Beach and is listed in critical condition.
Officials said she suffered a near amputation and is undergoing surgery.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
