OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- A 26-year-old woman faces aggravated manslaughter charges months after the body of her newborn baby girl was found in a trash can at a motel in north Florida.
The Ocala Star Banner reports Jodi LeAnn Alexander was booked into jail Monday and is being held on $100,000 bond. Her next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 6.
Marion County Sheriff's Det. J. Lightle says deputies went to the motel March 8 after Alexander's friend found the baby's body. An autopsy found the baby was born alive but bled to death because of a torn umbilical cord. She told investigators she the baby wasn't breathing when she was born.
An arrest report says Chance Alexander-Palmer covered with towels in the trash can.
Records don't list an attorney for Alexander.
