CAPE CORAL, Fla. — (WBBH/NBC) - A lightning strike caught on camera started a house fire in Southwest Florida this week, shredding a palm tree in the family's backyard.
Video shows the rain coming down hard from Wednesday's storm when there was a sudden crack of lightning.
Cape Coral fire officials say the lightning hit a palm tree in a backyard, which then caused a fire to spread to a house.
When firefighters arrived at the home, they reported seeing flames and smoke showing from the one-story house.
Everyone in the house escaped quickly. No one was injured.
