Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a man driving recklessly crashed his GMC truck into the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport early on Thursday morning.
A New College spokeperson says one of its police officers heard a boom and went to investigate.
The truck went through a perimeter fence, accelerated through the arrivals baggage claim and hit the National Car Rental's desk.
Authorities say there were employees behind the can rental desk but none were injured.
Sarasota Fire Rescue says the driver was transported to an area hospital as a trauma alert. They were called to the crash at 2:55 a.m.
Information on his condition has not been released at this time.
Story updated to clarify that New College says its officer did not try to overpower the truck to stop, but only heard a loud boom and investigated.
