BREVARD COUNTY, Fla.-- Authorities are warning some Florida beach visitors to beware of tar on Brevard County beaches after an offshore petroleum spill.
The petroleum spilled off Satellite Beach a few days ago but authorities provided few other details.
Coast Guard crew members cleaned up the small amount of tar found on the beach so far.
Tar patties are notorious for being incredibly sticky and can be dangerous for humans and wildlife alike.
"Oil's not a good thing for them, health-wise. If it's true and it starts washing up on shore, obviously we won't come down to the beach till it's able to get cleared up enough to swim again," said beach visitor William Bonnat.
"You live here for the nature, the water. It's just devastating, really," said beach visitor Stephanie Lacerte.
Authorities are asking residents to report any tar to local police or the Coast Guard.
