LAKE MINNEOLA, Fla. - Authorities in Florida are investigating a shooting where a high school student fatally shot himself.
The shooting happened just before eight a-m on the campus of Lake Minneola High School in Lake Minneola.
Deputies say the student fired the weapon around the time of a fire drill.
The handgun was recovered by authorities on the scene.
Lake County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant John Herlell says this was never an active shooter situation. "There was a fire drill either immediately before the shooting took place or immediately after...and we're trying to review security footage to determine exactly when this happened and put together a good clear time frame of how the events unfolded.
The campus was placed on lockdown but administrators expect to resume classes for the day.
Grief counselors will be available to those who need it.
