JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida high school student has been arrested after authorities found a loaded gun in a bathroom.
The Florida Times-Union reports Duval County school police officers arrested the Terry Parker High School student on Monday. They didn’t provide a name, age or gender of the student.
Police say the gun was found after other students reported it.
Students at the Jacksonville high school will go through metal detectors and have backpacks searched this week following the Monday arrest.
School principal Megan McKinney said in a message to parents that the school was placed on lockdown while police searched for the gun. She credits the students for their vigilance.
Superintendent Diana Greene said the screening will be in effect as they review policies.
