HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida man faces animal cruelty charges after authorities found 29 caged animals in a U-Haul with no access to food or water.

Hollywood police and animal control officers rescued four dogs and 25 cats and kittens on Saturday as temperatures in South Florida approached 90 degrees.

The SunSentinel reports 47-year-old Marlon Antonio Flores told police that he rented the U-Haul after being evicted on March 31.

Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman says Flores was arrested on 87 charges including animal cruelty and unlawful confinement.

Police say some of the animals were covered in urine and feces. Two of the dogs were in a cage so small they couldn't turn around.

Flores remains in jail and records don't indicate whether he has a lawyer.
