Snapchat post leads to four arrests in Key West home burglary

Posted

Four people, including two teenagers, are accused of being involved in a home invasion in Key West – and were caught thanks to a social media post.

Police said one of the teenagers, a 16-year-old, posted a photo on Snapchat showing himself with another woman, 19-year-old Katherine Cruz, and a large amount of money.

The photo came after a Dec.14 break-in at a home off Sunrise Drive in the New Town section of Key West.

The teen had been known by police from previous run-ins with the law and was arrested on felony burglary and grand theft charges.

Cruz was arrested Friday after police spotted her car at a nearby gas station, saying she had money from the burglary and various drugs in her possession.

Cruz was arrested on charges that include burglary, cocaine possession, evidence tampering and several other drug charges and is being held on $70,000 bond.

Another teen was interviewed in connection to the case and admitted to having a gun in his backpack.

That 15-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm and marijuana.

Police also arrested 22-year-old Yurisandro Leon in a separate case on attempted burglary in Sugarloaf Key, finding cash and other items on him from the first case. Leon remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.
