MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Investigators say a Florida woman used some of the money she stole from her employer to purchase an exotic cat, rare lizards and to make a $12,000 down payment on a car.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office arrested 29-year-old Jaymi Lyn Nicholas on Tuesday on multiple fraud charges in the theft of $264,529 from Space Coast Realty.
Florida Today reports Nicholas worked as a bookkeeper for the company.
Sheriff's officials say the checks were deposited into her accounts between July 2017 and April 2018. Other employees found several checks that had been voided by Nicholas and contacted authorities.
Her salary at the company was about $1,200 a month.
She remains in the Brevard County Jail where bond was set at $146,000. A lawyer isn't listed on jail records.
