MIAMI — A daycare worker in Miami is accused of violently shaking a baby and slapping him when he wouldn't stop crying.

According to an arrest report, an 11-month-old boy was crying in his crib at the Thumbelina Learning Center, located at 8380 NW 22nd Avenue in Miami, on Wednesday.

A witness said 58-year-old Marta Jimenez, a caregiver at the daycare, picked the baby up, "held him above her head and violently shook him approximately four (4) times for him to stop crying," the arrest report stated.

Jimenez then "placed the victim back in the crib, grabbed and slapped the victim on his body and face," according to the arrest report.

Investigators said Jimenez denied shaking or slapping the baby, instead claiming she was "patting him on the buttock allegedly to soothe him."

Jimenez was arrested for child abuse and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in west Miami-Dade County.
