CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Police say a deal to buy a SUV became deadly when a Florida woman shot a man who carjacked the vehicle she and her son arrived in.

Clearwater police Deputy Chief Eric Gandy tells The Tampa Bay Times that the incident's timeline will determine if there was a threat when 36-year-old Louise Ornduff shot and killed 18-year-old Lasupta Singletary.

Ornduff and her son were meeting Singletary and a 17-year-old boy on Monday evening to negotiate the sale of a 2016 Nissan Rogue.

Singletary and the teenager had guns when they demanded keys to the 2016 Hyundai Veloster Ornduff that her son had driven to the engagement. Ornduff fired as Singletary and the 17-year-old drove away.

Police are reviewing details with the Pasco-Pinellas State Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be brought against Ornduff.
