The chase began in a rural area of southwest Miami-Dade near 280th Street and 182nd Avenue. Footage showed police cars and a police helicopter pursuing the ATV on dirt roads at a high rate of speed.

Miami-Dade Police said two other men were taken into custody at the scene where the chase started.

After avoiding officers for at least a half hour, the ATV rider surrendered to a Homestead Police officer.

It's unknown what started the chase but Homestead Police officials said it was related to a firearm.

Police said the suspect struck a marked police car during the pursuit and may have tried to hit other officers.
