NEAR MARCO ISLAND, Fla.-- There was a dramatic rescue in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday when a massive fire broke out on a boat with two people and their pets on board.
The boat was engulfed in flames 24 miles off the southwest Florida coast.
The people on board put out a mayday call and then climbed into a life raft with their two dogs. Fortunately, a Key West ferry boat was nearby.
It heard the call, saw smoke on the horizon, and reached the burning boat within 15 minutes.
The people climbed on board with their dogs. No one was hurt.
It's unclear how the fire started.
