DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- A Davie police sergeant was struck by a car while assisting in an earlier crash on Interstate 75.
Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Richard Glass tells the SunSentinel Patricia Ravine had stopped south of Royal Palm Boulevard in Broward County late Wednesday. As she walked along the paved shoulder of the southbound lane, she was struck by a passing car.
Glass says the driver had swerved to avoid her patrol car and ended up on the shoulder where the officer was walking. The driver was cited for careless driving.
The earlier crash involved a rollover crash. The driver of that vehicle was charged with driving under the influence.
The newspaper reports Ravine remains in intensive care.
Glass says the crash stresses the importance of following the state's Move Over Law.
