Several trauma alerts were called to the scene of a rollover crash in Charlotte County Thursday morning that briefly forced the closure of southbound lanes of Interstate 75.
According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, the crash happened around 6:45 a.m. just south of the U.S.17 exit in Punta Gorda, near mile marker 164.
The crash is described as a single-vehicle rollover of a pickup truck.
16 people were injured in the crash, with five of those classified as trauma alerts. 8 of the injured were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, the other 8 were taken to other area hospitals.
All lanes of the interstate were closed in the area to make room for emergency vehicles, but all lanes have since been reopened.
