TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida sheriff's dive team pulled a woman to safety early on New Year's Day after another driver cut her off on Interstate 4 and her vehicle wound up upside down in a muddy ravine.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman Danny Alvarez says 33-year-old Amanda Antonio's desperate 911 call came in at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday. He tells news outlets that 13 units raced up and down the interstate near Tampa searching in dense fog to find the drowning woman.
A deputy eventually saw the rear of her car sticking out of waist-deep muddy water. Alvarez says the deputy calmed Antonio and kept her in an air pocket until the dive team arrived.
The dive team finally freed her through the passenger door. Antonio suffered minor injuries.
