POLK COUNTY, Fla. - Just two days before Mother's Day and a Polk County mother is sitting in jail, accused of leaving six kids home alone with nothing to eat.
One of the kids is a two-year-old baby who was seen wandering the Big Sioux Ct. in Kissimmee.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Kayla Vaughan on Thursday on charges of child neglect and drug use.
Deputies responded to the home after getting a call from a concerned neighbor who saw the baby in the roadway for an hour and a half.
Neighbors tell ABC Action News that they see the same two year old boy sitting in the road all the time.
"I have to stop my car, take the baby and put it in front of my garage," Yanique Mutellus, who lives nearby and is relieved the kids are finally safe.
In this case, investigators located the child and then found five more kids inside the house with no adult supervision and nothing in the kitchen to eat.
They waited six hours at the home until Vaughan arrived. She did not say where she was while the kids were left alone to fend for themselves.
The kids are now in DCF custody.
