(WFLA, NBC NEWSCHANNEL) Zach Ferguson is one of the thousands of Florida Blue customers who enrolled in the automatic draft system-- but a major glitch in the system took all of his money and more.
"This payment was supposed to be $514 to cover two months of insurance, but then it got duplicated 67 times for a total of 34,000,” Ferguson said.
This started over the weekend through a third-party billing system; customers May invoices were charged multiple times.
Lane Morris is another customer who got hit. "It's gone. Reporter: How much money? $20,000."
Florida Blue tweeted out an apology Monday morning for the mishap and suggest customers to email or call them, but that's proved to be an inconvenience too.
"Reaching them on the phone? 3 to 4 hour wait time. That's one of the reasons I called Channel 8. You guys are great," Morris said.
We reached out to Florida Blue for some answers; while they are aware of the problem they tell us they are working to identify all overpayments and refund them, and that they will reimburse customers for any bank and overdraft fees.
They've even told some customers, including Zach Ferguson, that they hope to have most of the issues resolved overnight.
Until the problem is resolved Florida Blue has stopped taking electronic fund transfers. And since members cannot make payments right now Florida Blue will not cancel a policy for nonpayment.
