FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida man has been convicted of fatally striking a bicyclist with his car and hiding the body before destroying his own vehicle.
The News-Press reports that 24-year-old Daniel Aquino Longoria was found guilty Friday of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, second-degree arson, two counts of tampering with evidence, driving with a suspended license and making a false report of a crime. He faces up to 55 years in prison at his Sept. 24 sentencing.
Authorities say 23-year-old Tony Bridley was riding his bike in a Fort Myers neighborhood in May 2015 when Longoria hit him. Instead of calling for help, Longoria hid the body, fled the scene, set his car on fire and reported it stolen.
Longoria was eventually charged after a seven-month investigation.
