Paramedics rushed to the scene of a dog attack in Lauderhill, Broward County, Monday afternoon. The incident happened on northwest 21st Street and 41st Avenue.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue said a woman in her 30s was mauled by one of her own three dogs.

Officers arrived to the apartment as the dog attacked the woman. She was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. The woman suffered injuries to both arms.

Police say they don't know if the other two dogs also attacked the woman.

An officer used pepper spray in an attempt to subdue the aggressive dog, but that had no effect. Police say they were then forced to shoot at the dog, Major Rick Rocco said.

The breed of the dogs was unknown.

Lauderhill Police said the injured woman was visiting from the Carolinas with her three dogs. She was staying at her nephew's apartment when for unknown reasons, one of her dogs attacked her. The woman's nephew called 911 when he got home and saw the attack.
