JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A Jacksonville sheriff's detective is in critical condition after being shot by a suspect involved in a car theft.
Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said during a news conference that the plain-clothes detective was off duty when he was shot Wednesday morning. Authorities say the suspect was also shot and is alive.

The sheriff's office says it isn't releasing his identity because it's still in the process of contacting the detective's family. The suspect has also not been identified.
