A landlord was arrested Sunday for fatally shooting his tenant, after their argument over the rent escalated.
The incident occurred on the 7400 block of West 12th Avenue in Hialeah early Sunday morning.
Reineiro Espino Caballero, 76, was arrested Sunday for fatally shooting 46-year-old Ramon Emilio Gutierrez Castillo.
According to Hialeah Police, Caballero, Castillo's landlord, confronted Castillo about not having paid his rent. Both Caballero and Castillo were involved in a verbal argument. Castillo went inside his efficiency and locked the glass sliding door, preventing the Caballero from going inside.
Caballero walked back to his residence and armed himself with a firearm. He then fired his firearm one time towards the glass door, causing the glass to break, striking Castillo on the hip. The two men then became involved in a physical altercation. Caballero overpowered Castillo and shot him once more in the face.
Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
Caballero provided a statement admitting to his actions. He has been charged with 1st degree murder and armed burglary.
