A 13-year-old girl was nearly abducted while walking home from school in Pompano Beach Wednesday.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives released a sketch of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help identifying him.

The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. at 1404 Northeast 4th Street in Pompano Beach, while she was walking westbound from Pompano Beach Academy.

According to deputies, the would-be abductor pulled his tan SUV alongside the girl and asked if she was walking home. The student ignored him and continued walking. The suspect then exited his vehicle and grabbed the girl around her waist as he tried to pull her into the vehicle, according to deputies.

The victim screamed and broke free from his grasp. The would-be kidnapper then returned to his SUV to pursue the child; however, she was able to elude the suspect.

The man is described as having reddish-brown hair and a thin frame. He appeared to be in his late 40s or early 50s. The suspect was last seen wearing a red short-sleeved shirt, jeans and black Nike sneakers. His tan vehicle may be an Explorer.

Anyone with information is asked to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
