(WKMG/CNN) - A Florida woman hopes a homemade sign will deter ongoing drug activity in her neighborhood that she's been fighting for months.
"As long as we sit back and let them take over our neighborhoods they're going to," said sign creator Tammy Leggett. "It's time somebody stands up and does something."
She says a nearby drug-ridden apartment complex is the root of the problem.
"This has been over a year that I've been fighting this. There have been 75 phone calls. 911 and non-emergency numbers since January that I have made," said Leggett
Police patrol the area regularly and officers have made busts, but the Florida mother still claims it's still not enough.
A sign that she has created and placed in her yard reads: “Don't park here to buy your drugs. Your dealer is across the street. Smile for the camera.”
"I have 15 cameras around this property," said Leggett.
Leggett documents everything she sees including pictures of needles from drug users.
"It's constant in and out traffic (at the apartment complex). For five minutes and gone," said Leggett.
Daytona Beach police say they have responded to the complex 36 times since last July for issues including narcotics parking and noise complaints.
"We're hoping if we're not able to put them behind bars long enough to at least turn up the heat," said Leggett.
