Florida man suffers multiple alligator bites in Port Charlotte while bathing in retention pond

A Florida man was sent to to hospital Monday morning after an alligator attacked him in a retention pond in Charlotte County.

The attacked happened around 10:20 a.m. Monday in the area of Suncoast Boulevard and King's Highway in Port Charlotte.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, the victim had multiple sites of trauma and was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He is reported to be in stable condition now.

Florida Fish and Wildlife identified the victim as 68-year-old Fredric Iman, who is reported to be homeless. He suffered injuries to his left foot and leg, left hand and groin.

FWC says he was bathing in a retention pond at the time of the attack.

The 9-foot gator was removed from the scene and will be euthanized.

This is the fifth reported alligator bite in Southwest Florida in July
