PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida say they responded to an unsettling call about someone throwing kittens out of a moving car.

Pinellas Park police spokeswoman Roxanne Pohl says officers found one kitten dead along a road on Monday.

She says they don't have a description of the suspect or the vehicle. And they're not sure how many kittens were thrown into the road.

Pohl tells the Tampa Bay Times some of the kittens "could have run off and into neighboring streets" after being tossed from the car.

She says investigators want to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the incident. If a suspect is identified, she says they could be charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Pinellas Park is near St. Petersburg.
