GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida authorities say a mother who left her 2-year-old child in a car while shopping on a hot afternoon has been arrested.

The Gainesville Sun reports 20-year-old Marsha Ouwigho has been charged with child neglect after emergency services got the girl out of a car in a Walmart parking lot.

Witnesses called authorities Saturday afternoon after they saw the girl strapped in the backseat. Police say the temperature in the vehicle was nearly 113 degrees.

Authorities say it took them nearly 17 minutes to get the girl out. She remained unharmed.
