GULF BREEZE, Fla. — (WKRG/CNN) - A Florida man killed his own son-in-law who was there to surprise him for his birthday, but no charges will be filed.
The sheriff's office said Richard Dennis, 61, shot and killed his own son-in-law.
Christoper Bergan, 37, was shot in the heart and died at the scene.
He was trying to surprise his father-in-law for his birthday.
Bergan lived in Norway and planned the trip to Florida as a gift.
He banged on the door of Dennis' home at about 11:30 p.m.
Investigators said it was dark and the startled man fired the deadly shot.
Officials say Dennis won't be arrested.
