What would you do to save your best friend? As humans we have to think about the consequences of our decisions.
I guess that's what's so great about dogs.
"He seems happier Molly just cause he see's you," said Donya Deluca to her daughter Molly.
"He came between her and the snake and it's evident by his injuries," said Deluca.
On Wednesday, the mother of two says her daughter Molly was playing with her best friend, a German shepherd named Haus in the families backyard.
Lurking in the grass was a deadly eastern diamondback rattlesnake.
And like he's done on rainy days and rides to school, Haus never left Molly's side.
"He just got struck again and again but like I said he just stayed like an impasse," said Deluca.
Haus suffered three strikes to his left arm protecting Molly.
Haus is now recovering at Blue Pearl pet hospital in Tampa. He's already received several doses of costly antivenin and the family says the venom has done some damage to his kidney.
"I don't know of anybody who could easily pay for something like this," said Deluca.
With around-the-clock care and the antivenin, the bill could be north of $9,000.
A GofundMe page has been set up to help pay the bill and more importantly bring Haus home.
"I'm really grateful that he loves us so much that he would give his life to protect us," said Deluca. "I just feel sometimes there's no greater love than a dog."
