LARGO, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man who may have been trying to steal a car has been hit by a car and killed.
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies found 54-year-old Donald Sands unconscious and lying in the road Saturday night after being hit by a car.
They later discovered Sands was fleeing from a potential vehicle burglary in a mobile home park.
Shelby Slocumb told deputies he'd seen Sands inside his car earlier and chased him away. Sands was allegedly found with a red cup filled with change that Slocumb said was stolen from his car.
Authorities said Sands may have been homeless.
