FORT MYERS, Fla. — (CNN) - A fire at an airport in Fort Myers destroyed thousands of rental cars on Friday.
The fire started with just 20 vehicles in a grassy overflow area at Southwest Florida International Airport. The blaze then spread to 15 acres and burned 3,500 vehicles.
It took more than 18 hours to extinguish the blaze.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says it had to make 80 airdrops. The fire wasn't contained until late Saturday morning.
No injuries were reported, and the fire is now under investigation.
