CALLAHAN, Fla.-- An escaped zebra was shot and killed in north Florida Wednesday.

The animal, named Shadow, broke free from a ranch in Callahan.

It was roaming a neighborhood when its owner shot and killed it.

According the the local sheriff's department, the zebra became injured during its escape which is why its owner put it down.
