FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — (WSVN/CNN/WTVJ) - A man led a dozen South Florida police officers on a chase in a stolen Corvette on Wednesday in Broward County.

It began just after 5 p.m. on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale.

Police spotted the Corvette and tried to stop it, but the driver, later identified as Stephen Nitsch, 33, didn't comply.

The chase proceeded through neighborhoods at low speeds until it got to I-95.

It even stopped for a time, and police approached with weapons drawn -- but then Nitsch took off again.

Authorities eventually stopped the Corvette with a pit maneuver.

Nitsch ran but was apprehended in a nearby restaurant and then taken to a local hospital.

WTVJ in Miamireported that Nitsch faces charges of burglarizing an occupied dwelling, auto theft and eluding law enforcement.

He may face additional charges pending an investigation.
