A dog thrown from a moving vehicle Friday in Central Florida has died, according to a veterinarian at local hospital.

The dog's name is unknown, and the reason why someone would want to hurt him is a mystery.

"He was just a puppy. He was only maybe a year old," said Heather Deely, who rescued the animal.

Deely met the pup in the most unforgettable yet horrifying way.

"A white minivan drove by and threw a dog out of the van, out of the slider as it was moving," she said.

Deely's husband was on his way to work Friday morning on Orchid Lake Road in New Port Richey, Fla., when he witnessed a woman toss the dog out like trash.

"He thought they were throwing newspaper.  That's how hard he got thrown," Deely said.

When he told his wife, she got in her car and headed to the scene. The injured pup crawled under her car.

"He was panting, I could tell he was in pain," Deely said. "He kind of started in the middle of my car underneath it and then started scooting towards the front, I could see he was dragging his back end."

Deely stayed by his side, offering the dog food and water until animal control arrived.

"Even as the guy picked him up hurting and everything he didn't bite. Nothing happened. He wanted someone to help him," she said.

Investigators are looking for a heavy-set woman with blonde hair believed to be about 45 years old. She had her hair pulled back, and she was wearing glasses. The van is described as a white or grey min van.
