(WFLA, NBC NEWSCHANNEL) We frequently hear about wrong-way drivers, but actually seeing someone drive toward you in the wrong direction can make you realize just how dangerous the situation is.
A camera inside a Sarasota deputy's cruiser recorded frightening video of a wrong-way driver traveling in the breakdown lane of southbound Interstate 75 at 11 a.m. Monday.
21-year-old Ryan Fleury was identified as the driver who drove six miles southbound in the northbound lane before getting off on an entrance ramp.
"He stayed in the breakdown lane and luckily no one was in that breakdown lane," said Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Daniel Tutko.
Fluery is facing several charges including DUI; his blood alcohol level was nearly four times over the legal limit, according to deputies.
