KEY LARGO, Fla. (AP) -- Sheriff's officials in the Florida Keys say a church day care worker is accused of child abuse.

Monroe County Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin says 51-year-old Virginia Amaya was arrested Monday.

She's accused of injuring a 4-year-old girl's lip while disciplining her for misbehavior on the playground at St. Justin Church in Key Largo on Feb. 24.

According to a report by Major Crimes Unit Det. Vince Weiner, several children were misbehaving on the playground that day. As Amaya was scolding the children, she pushed the girl's head down, hitting her lip on a table.

She remains in the Monroe County Jail. Jail records don't indicate whether Amaya has hired an attorney.
